After two years and a delay, the animated show "Venture Bros." will return to Adult Swim's weekly lineup for its sixth season. The first episode of season six will be broadcast on Sunday, January 29 at midnight.
Venture Bros. boasts the title of Adult Swim's longest running original program still in production. It first debuted as a pilot in 2003, being officially picked up shortly after. The first episode "Dia de Los Dangerous!" screened on televisions on August 7, 2004. After resounding critical acclaim and a fan rating of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, Venture Bros. appears to be back in full form. According to the trailer, the new season appears to parody super hero movies, particularly those of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Following the lives of the twins Hank and Dean Venture, their father Rusty Venture, and their body guard Brock Samson, the Venture Bros. plays on the strengths of shows such as "The Tick" and "Johnny Quest" to create a strong, adventurous world whose main theme is "failure." The show falls under the action-adventure/ comedy genres and was created by Jackson Publick, who wrote for "The Tick" animated program.
According to writers Doc Hammer and Publick, after the end of season 5 in 2013, production began immediately on season 6 with the expectation to have it released by 2015. Due to production constraints, the season was pushed back indefinitely. During New York Comic Con in 2015, a release trailer and a release date of February 7, 2016 was attached to the season. Since then, another trailer has been shown and an updated release date of January 31 has been announced.
To prepare fans for the upcoming release, Adult Swim put out a season five recap video on their website which was announced through the Venture Bros twitter account.
